Musical Friends: Making Music Together

Sunday, November 14, 2010 at 4 p.m.

This fun concert gives children a chance to get close up to different instruments and the musicians who play them. Three young players from the Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, Jessica Lizak, flute; Kai-yun Lu, clarinet and Su-Hsien Hsu, cello, will introduce children to the joy of making music through a short concert and interactive activities. Perfect for children age 5+. Tickets only $5!

Enjoy a concert on a winter’s afternoon in the James’ charming recital hall. Stephen Young joins Donald Zook, Chairman of the woodwind department at South Shore Conservatory, for a program of contemporary and classical pieces (and a bit of romance) for flute and piano. Treat yourself to a midwinter concert.

Known for her sensitive interpretations and brilliant virtuosity, Mana Tokuno will present a lively program of classical works. The James is pleased to have Ms. Tokuno, a first prize winner of the prestigious Competition Internationale, perform on its Steinway concert grand. She was described in a concert review … “Her limpid singing tone, amazing technical clarity, rhythmic drive and disarming expressivity stole the show..." Tickets $20/$18 senior/$10 student.

This engaging ensemble led by renowned oboist Peggy Pearson will perform the Beethoven Septet for winds and strings, a Boccherini quintet and the world premiere of Quartet by Kay Rhie, which was written for and commissioned by Winsor Music. This special concert is a tribute to The James Library’s music director Lawrence Wolfe. A complimentary, celebratory champagne reception honoring Mr. Wolfe will follow the concert.

Tickets $40 each /$75 for two.

Voted best new artist by folk radio station WUMB in 2001, Armerding is now well known as a master at bridging musical boundaries -- blending bluegrass and traditional Americana with folk-pop music.
